Prior to the EV era, a full-size pickup with a base engine offering 452 hp would have made plenty of headlines, but that sort of output is just par for the course in today’s all-electric segment. While the Standard Range battery pack might limit the Lightning to 7,700 lbs of max towing capacity, it does make the XLT the leader in terms of payload, with 2,000 lbs of hauling capacity on offer.

123-kWh Extended Range Battery

The XLT and its 98-kWh battery are the obvious choice for those looking to get into an EV pickup without breaking the bank, but those seeking a more work-ready option might want to explore some of the larger battery options. Standard on the Pro and Flash trims, the Lightning’s 123-kWh Extended Range battery represents a significant upgrade in almost every category, outpacing the smaller pack in terms of horsepower, range, and towing capacity.

300 miles of all-electric driving range puts the Extended Range battery closer to the industry average, and it also ups the fun factor by allowing the F-150 Lightning to speed from zero to 60 mph in just around four seconds. Throw in 10,000 lbs of max towing capacity, and it’s tough to make the argument against the 123-kWh Extended Range Battery from a performance perspective.

131-kWh Extended Range Battery

Standard On: Lariat, Platinum

Available On: Pro

Horsepower: 580

Range: 320 miles

Towing: 10,000 lbs

Payload: 1,800 lbs

If you’re the type of driver that won’t settle for anything but the best, the 131-kWh Extended Range battery is here to serve. This generously proportioned battery maxes out the Lightning’s driving range at 320 miles, as well as provides a small-if-satisfying boost in horsepower with 580 ponies on tap.

The largest battery pack is standard fare for the Lariat and Platinum trims, and it can even be added to the Pro if you’re in the mood to craft a no-holds-barred work truck that can hang with the heaviest towing tasks and complete longer road trips around the Pacific Coast. It’s also the most thrilling option of the bunch, allowing this F-150 EV to log a zero-to-60-mph time below four seconds and complete a quarter-mile sprint in just 12.7 ticks.

Trim Level Options

While the F-150 Lightning originally debuted with just four trims, Ford has steadily expanded the lineup over the last few years. Like the regular F-150, this EV’s trims run the gamut from affordable, no-nonsense models designed with the working world in mind to a near-luxury option that includes the latest in comfort and convenience tech, not to mention a few fun creature features made possible by this pickup’s all-electric design.

Every 2025 trim provides a solid arsenal of advanced driver assistance systems (ADAS) like automatic emergency braking, blind-spot warning, rear cross-traffic warning, a lane-keeping system, and rear parking sensors, but there are also some key differences that Sacramento drivers should be aware of before deciding on their desired trim level.

The Pro

The XLT

Additional ADAS include a lane-keeping system, evasive steering assistance, and adaptive cruise control, but the clear highlight is the addition of Ford’s BlueCruise hands-free driving tool. Covering almost 200,000 miles of pre-mapped roads across the US and Canada, BlueCruise offers a true hands-free driving experience and has been ranked as the best system on today’s market by Consumer Reports.

The Lariat

The Lariat’s 131-kWh Extended Range battery might be its biggest selling point, but the trim also prioritizes comfort and style. It has leather upholstery, heated rear seats, and ventilated front seats that’ll keep drivers feeling refreshed (and prevent them from sticking to the upholstery in the summer) as they cruise around Sacramento.

In addition to all the gear you’ll find on the lower trims, the Lariat also adds a power-sliding rear window and a twin-panel sunroof that help create a light, airy cabin. A set of 22-inch wheels is sure to turn some heads and immediately differentiate the Platinum from your typical Lightning trim, and the upgraded leather upholstery and interior accents also speak to its status atop the 2025 trim ladder.
