When it comes to full-size SUVs, drivers are going to want one that works best for their needs and those of their families. This means getting a model with enough space for everyone, as well as room for their luggage, since a full-size SUV is an ideal model for a road trip. However, the 2026 Ford Expedition is the model to choose if you want to get a full-size SUV with exceptional performance and the latest features to make your road trip even more memorable, or just a humble school run more enjoyable.

The 2026 Expedition is the fifth generation of this impressive model, and it comes with the options you need to find one that is right for you. There are four different trim levels, running from the entry-level Active to the luxurious King Ranch and Platinum to the off-road-ready Tremor. You can also choose to get even more space in your Expedition with the MAX version that increases the amount of cargo space to an incredible level. No matter which one you choose, you are getting a full-size SUV with the dependability that is a hallmark of the Ford brand.

Performance

Engine Options

Ford offers two powerful versions of its twin-turbocharged V6 engine on the 2026 Expedition. Availability depends on the trim level you choose. The Active, Platinum, and King Ranch feature a 3.5-liter EcoBoost turbocharged V6, while the Tremor has a 3.5-liter EcoBoost High-Output turbocharged V6 engine. The high-output version is also available as an option on the Platinum trim.

The key difference between the two engines is output. Both use port fuel and direct injection, but the high-output version delivers more horsepower and torque. The 2026 Ford Expedition equipped with the standard EcoBoost V6 provides up to 400 horsepower and 480 lb-ft of torque. In contrast, the Expedition with the high-output version delivers up to 440 horsepower and 510 lb-ft of torque.

Transmission

No matter which engine you choose, you will get a 10-speed SelectShift Automatic Transmission in your powertrain. This is designed to maximize your Ford Expedition’s performance.

Fuel Economy

While full-size SUVs like the Expedition are not known for their fuel efficiency, Ford has still taken steps to improve the fuel economy numbers on this model. For example, each one has auto stop-start technology, which shuts off the engine when you are stopped at a traffic light or in a traffic jam.

The result is a model that delivers pretty solid fuel economy numbers. The Expedition with the standard version of the EcoBoost V6 will get up to 19 MPG combined fuel economy if you choose one with rear-wheel drive. Opting for four-wheel drive on this model will improve traction while only reducing combined fuel economy to a still respectable 18 MPG.

Speed and Acceleration

The 2026 Expedition delivers impressive performance for a large vehicle, especially if you choose either the Tremor or Platinum with the high-output V6 engine. This will get you from zero to 60 mph in just 4.9 seconds. This is the kind of acceleration that will surely assist with getting up to highway speeds quickly and thrill your passengers, especially if you take an Expedition Tremor off-roading.

Towing Capacity

Ford is known for its rugged pickup trucks and their exceptional towing capabilities. This kind of pedigree is also seen in the 2026 Ford Expedition. Depending on which trim, engine, and configuration you choose, you will get the kind of towing capacity that is rarely available on any passenger vehicle other than a truck. Each Expedition has Pro-Trailer Backup Assist, which makes it easy to hitch a trailer to your SUV.

If you choose one of the Expedition models with the standard V6 engine and rear-wheel drive, you will be able to tow up to 6,000 pounds. Opting for four-wheel drive increases this figure to an impressive 9,600 pounds. Similarly, the Expedition MAX with the standard engine and rear-wheel drive can tow up to 6,300 pounds, while choosing available four-wheel drive increases this figure to 9,000 pounds.

Interior Space

Rear leather seats in a 2026 Ford Expedition

The Ford Expedition is a full-size SUV that has plenty of room for passengers and cargo. Nevertheless, Ford offers this model with an available MAX edition. You can pair this with the Active, King Ranch, and Platinum trims. Choosing an Expedition MAX will give you more cargo space.

Passenger Space

You will get plenty of room for your friends and family when you choose a 2026 Expedition. Depending on the trim and configuration, you can seat either seven or eight passengers in this vehicle. The Active trim has a second row bench seat, accommodating up to eight passengers, while the King Ranch has standard second row captain’s chairs, reducing seating capacity to seven passengers. Meanwhile, the Platinum and Tremor offer both options, so you can choose the configuration that makes the most sense for you.

No matter which design you choose, you will get plenty of space for everyone. The front row passengers will enjoy 40.8 inches of headroom and up to 43.9 inches of legroom, while those seated in the second row get 40 inches of headroom and 41.1 inches of legroom. One of the benefits of choosing a full-size, three-row SUV is that the third row also has plenty of space, with people seated there getting 37.4 inches of headroom and 36.5 inches of legroom. This makes the third row actually useful on long trips.

Except for the Expedition Active, the front row seats are heated and ventilated, while those in the second row are also heated. This will come in handy when traveling on cold mornings. The Active model features cloth-trimmed seats, while the other trims on the Expedition have leather seats.

Cargo Space

There is plenty of room for all your belongings inside the 2026 Ford Expedition. This model has a roomy 22.9 cubic feet of space inside its trunk. If you need more room, you can easily fold down the third row of seats to free up 69.9 cubic feet of space. Folding down the second row of space gives you a voluminous 108.5 cubic feet of cargo space.

If you are someone who loves to shop or do DIY home improvement projects, then you are going to love the trunk space on the Expedition MAX. This model extends the rear of the vehicle to accommodate more cargo space. The result is a trunk with an exceptional 37.4 cubic feet of space, with the ability to expand it to 84.5 cubic feet by folding down the third row of seats, and 123.1 cubic feet with the second row of seats folded as well.

Ford has made it easier than ever to use the Expedition’s cargo trunk. Each model has an upper liftgate and lower tailgate, both with power entry. This lets you lift either top portion to load things on top, the bottom to use as a tailgate, or both if you need full access. This is a unique feature that is not offered on most other full-size SUVs.

Technology

Grey and black interior in a 2026 Ford Expedition

The 2026 Ford Expedition features the kind of technology you need to keep you and your passengers safe, connected, and entertained wherever you go. This is because Ford has equipped each model with its Co-Pilot360 safety features and its immersive Ford Digital Experience infotainment system.

Safety

Ford has always been on the cutting edge of safety technology, and the 2026 Expedition is no exception. Each model comes with a standard set of driver assistance features to help you avoid getting into an accident. Pre-Collision Assist with Automatic Emergency Braking will alert you to a potential front-end collision, giving you the time to take evasive action, while the Dynamic Brake Support will bring your vehicle to a safe stop. There is even a Pedestrian Detection feature that will detect pedestrians and bicyclists who cross your path when you are driving at a slow speed.

The Expedition also has BLIS, Ford’s Blind Spot Information System. This will let you know if there is another vehicle traveling in your blind spot when you signal to change lanes. This also has a Trailer Coverage feature that includes the trailer when you are towing. These are just some of the safety features that come standard on the 2026 Ford Expedition.

Infotainment

The Ford Digital Experience is one of the most advanced infotainment systems. This combines a 13.2-inch Centerstack Display screen with a massive 24-inch Panoramic Instrument Panel Display. This puts everything you need to know right in front of you, making it safe and easy to access key information and operate the infotainment system.

Simply connect your smartphone using Apple CarPlay or Android Auto, and you are ready to make hands-free calls and texts wherever you go on the road. This is because the system has a built-in 5G modem, as well as the FordPass Connect with 5G LTE Wi-Fi Hotspot. You can stream your favorite music over the Expedition’s audio system, with available premium stereo systems on the upper trims courtesy of Bang & Olufsen, one of the leaders in audio technology.

You and your passengers will be able to keep your devices charged wherever you go in your Expedition. This is because Ford has equipped this model with plenty of USB charging ports and an available wireless charging pad that comes standard on some models.
