Isuzu Box Trucks: Gas vs Diesel Engines

Choosing the right truck for your business isn’t always easy, but it’s essential to getting your job done each day. Isuzu offers incredible box trucks for sale near Folsom that are built to do some serious work, but you have quite a few options to choose from.

In particular, Isuzu offers both gasoline and diesel options, with some notable differences between them. So today, we’re going to dive into the specs for all these trucks to see what they offer and help you figure out which one best meets your business’s needs.

Gas-Powered Isuzu Box Trucks

If you’re interested in a gas-powered Isuzu truck, focus on the N-Series Gas trucks, as they’re your main option. These trucks are powerful, though generally less capable than diesel models. Isuzu offers four options in this series, all powered by a 6.6L V8 gas engine that delivers 350 hp and 425 lb-ft of torque. The NPR and NPR-HD models come with an eight-speed automatic transmission, while the two Class 5 models feature an Allison six-speed automatic instead.

All four of these trucks are available with either a three-passenger standard cab or a larger crew cab seating up to seven people. This is important to keep in mind since you want a truck that lets your team get where they need to go.

One thing to consider is that standard cabs allow longer bodies; for example, the NPR with a standard cab can fit a 10- to 24-foot box, while the crew cab only allows a 12- to 16-foot body. You can see there are some big differences in what these trucks can handle, but you get a powerful box truck no matter which model you choose. All four come standard with a 38.6-gallon in-frame fuel tank, to ensure your team can get around Folsom each day without any worries. Diesel-Powered Isuzu Box Trucks

Isuzu offers two diesel-powered box truck series, and there are significant differences between them. To keep things organized, we’ll cover each of them separately and note that, while they’re both diesel trucks, they actually have different engines. If you like what the N-Series Gas trucks offer, but want diesel reliability, then the N-Series Diesel box trucks are the way to go, while the F-Series takes weight ratings to the next level.

The N-Series Diesel Trucks

In many ways, you can see this as the diesel sibling of the N-Series Gas trucks we already looked at, although you get bigger capabilities across the board here. In fact, while the N-Series Gas trucks start with a Class 3 option, the first model here is a Class 4 truck with no Class 3 available. These trucks are all powered by a 5.2L diesel engine that provides 215 hp and 452 lb-ft of torque; all four models are paired with a six-speed automatic transmission with double overdrive and lock-up 2nd-6th gears to make your drivers’ lives easier.

You can choose a standard cab or crew cab for each of these engines, and much like the N-Series Gas trucks, your pick can affect the overall length of body available for your truck. The N-Series Diesel trucks come with a 30-gallon in-frame fuel tank, which is impressive, but can’t compete with the F-Series we’ll look at in a moment. In terms of capabilities, here’s what you can get:

NPR-HD Class 4 Truck

Note that even though these diesel trucks have similar weight ratings, the body payload ratings are slightly lower than the comparable N-Series Gas trucks. This is important to keep in mind when looking at which option is right for your business, but it’s easy to miss.

Diesel engines are often more durable and fuel-efficient for heavy-duty use, though maintenance and repair costs can be higher, which is a major reason many companies choose them. Both options are great for getting cargo around Folsom, but make sure you get something that can handle what you need to do.

The F-Series Diesel Trucks

Finally, these are the most capable models we’re looking at today, taking the power of Isuzu’s box trucks to the next level. The F-Series is only offered with a diesel engine, and it delivers performance beyond that of the N-Series Diesel models.

You can only get these trucks with the three-passenger standard cab, so keep that in mind. All three can handle a body between 14 and 30 feet in length, longer than the N-Series trucks. Isuzu offers a 50-gallon or 100-gallon in-frame fuel tank on the F-Series, giving you incredible range with these trucks and making them perfect for getting around Folsom and going far beyond city limits.

All three F-Series trucks are powered by a Cummins 6.7L diesel engine that delivers 260 hp and an incredible 660 lb-ft of torque.
