Power, Efficiency and Towing

Both the 2023 Ford F-150 Lightning and the 2024 Ford F-150 Lightning harness the power of a 98-kW battery pack driving dual electric motors, which are positioned at the front and rear. This configuration delivers a robust 462 horsepower and an impressive 775 lb-ft of torque, marking both model years as the most powerful F-150s ever. All-wheel drive comes standard, and ensures optimal traction in various conditions. For those that are interested in even more power and range, an optional 131-kW battery pack is available on the XLT and Lariat trims for the 2023 Ford F-250 Lightning. With this upgrade, power output increases to a remarkable 580 horsepower, torque remains unchanged, and the range extends to an impressive 320 miles. This battery upgrade is available on the XLT and Lariat trims and standard on the Flash and Platinum trims for the 2024 models, and increases horsepower to 580, torque remains the same at 775 lb-ft, and range extends to 320 miles, which is almost 100 miles more than the standard battery range of 230 miles for both model years. Both model years present the same towing capacities; standard-range battery models offer a 7700-pound towing capacity, while the extended-range battery models offer a maximum towing capacity of 10,000 pounds.

Charge Time and Battery Life

Another similarity between the 2023 Ford F-150 Lightning and the 2024 Ford F-150 Lightning is the battery life and charge times. Buyers who choose the extended-range battery will receive a home charging station, the Ford Charge Station Pro, which can add 30 miles of range per hour of charging. Lightning owners can also plug into a 150-kW DC fast charger to go from 15%-80% in about 40 minutes for the extended-range battery pack. Buyers can expect the same charging times for the standard-range battery pack.

Trim Options

For the 2023 Ford F-150 Lightning lineup, four trim levels are offered including the Pro, XLT, Lariat and Platinum, and all of these models come in the Super Crew cab body style with a 5.5-foot bed length. The Platinum trim gets the extended-range battery standard, while the three lower trims get the standard-range battery. Pro Well-equipped is how we would describe this entry-level trim, which features 18-inch wheels, a Class IV trailer hitch, modern LED headlights, and one of our favorite exterior highlights, the Mega Power Frunk; this frunk offers four Pro Power On-Board 120V outlets plus one USB-C outlet an one USB-A outlet, culminating in a total of 2.4kW of exportable power for your tools, laptop or a microwave. Inside you will find dual-zone automatic climate control, a 12-inch infotainment screen, embedded navigation, wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, and eight household-style outlets for your convenience. XLT Next up is the XLT model, which adds signature front LED wraparound lighting, a power-adjustable driver’s seat and pedals, a leather-wrapped steering wheel, heated front seats, under-seat storage compartments, cloth upholstery, satellite radio, a surround-view camera and front parking sensors, and a lay-flat interior work surface. Lariat The Lariat brings more luxury to the 2023 Ford F-150 Lightning, with a huge 15.5-inch capacitive touchscreen with SYNC 4A technology and enhanced voice recognition. We love the Power Tailgate that opens and closes with the touch of a button, as well as the LED cargo bed lighting, and the heated, power-folding and auto-dimming side mirrors. Inside, customers of Future Ford in Sacramento will relax into leather upholstery and ambient cabin lighting, take advantage of the wireless charging pad, and enjoy their favorite music through the premium 8-speaker Bang & Olufsen audio system. Platinum The Platinum brings with it the standard extended-range battery pack, 22-inch Bright Machined wheels with Ebony Black painted pockets, a panoramic sunroof, massaging front seats with upgraded Multicontour Premium Nirvana leather upholstery, “End cut Oak” real wood and metal interior trim accents, and an amazing 18-speaker Bang & Olufsen sound system. The 2024 Ford F-150 Lightning is similarly well-equipped across the four trim levels offered, with the Flash model being a new addition for the 2024 model year and the Pro trim exiting the lineup. We will highlight the Flash trim here. Flash Featuring all of the best tech rolled into an affordable package, the Flash trim offers the larger 15.5-inch infotainment screen, the extended-range battery pack, and the stress-relieving Blue Cruise hands-free driving mode. The Flash also features 20-inch alloy Dark Carbonized Gray wheels, the interior work surface, cloth seating, heated front seats, a black leather-wrapped steering wheel, and wireless charging pad.
