Ford Keeps its Word Regarding the F-150

Nobody likes a promise breaker. So it's good that Ford followed through on its oath to reach 100,000-units in sales for the Ford F-150 by the end of 2011. Not that Future Ford of Sacramento ever doubted the ambitious automaker's capabilities. After all, the light-duty pickup truck and its boosted engine were bound to find success from the very beginning.
During mid-2011, company officials predicted that variants of the pickup with EcoBoost would account for around 40-percent of the model's year-end sales. This projection sounded ambitious considering that the eco-friendly, 3.7-liter, V6 engine came at a sizable, added price compared to the more then proficient 5.0-liter, V8. But as it turns out, truck lovers just couldn't resist the winning combination of impressive fuel-economy and competitive performance. By the end of the year, the boosted F-150 did in fact fulfill the automaker's sales forecast.
One Autoblog auto enthusiast notes, "While there was undoubtedly some consternation among pickup truck traditionalists and industry pundits, it appears Americans like their full-size V6 pickups just fine."1 Not only does the V6 with EcoBoost significantly alleviate pressure on the environment and on consumers' gas tabs, it has proved capable of withstanding even the toughest performance tests.
