Ford Uses Innovative Technology to Keep Your Drive Quiet

Future Ford of Sacramento in Sacramento, CA has a question for you: What do mirrors and insulation have in common? It's a tricky question, we admit. On the surface, the two seem totally unrelated. Give up? The answer is: they both reduce noise.

At this point, you're probably wondering how in the world a mirror could diminish sound. Well, we're not talking about any old ordinary mirror. In order to give consumers a quieter ride in their new Ford vehicles, the automaker has created an elliptical acoustic mirror. Bearing resemblance to a satellite dish with a microphone attached, the Ford technology is able to identify "hot spots" on the vehicle where external sound easily penetrates the interior. Once these spots are recognized, Ford engineers are then able to design models in a way that will nullify the noise.

While the elliptical acoustic mirror has already been used amongst select European luxury automakers, Ford is the first to bring the technology to America. And the Ford Escape is the first to put it to use. Thanks to the innovative mirror, Ford engineers were able to revamp the 2013 Ford Escape to include a new shape that will be optimally quiet. For example, the automaker has done tuning work on the A-pillar to ensure improved noise performance in crosswind situations.

Interested in testing out the new, pleasingly peaceful Ford Escape? If so, be sure to stay tuned to our Future Ford of Sacramento blog and contact one of our brand experts. As soon as the upcoming Escape is released, we promise you'll be the very first to know.
