Ford Will Help China Clean Up the Air with the Arrival of EcoBoost

When Ford focuses in on a goal, you can be sure it'll get done. That's why we're so thrilled that the automaker's eyes are currently set on environmental sustainability. In particular, Ford will send its EcoBoost turbocharged engine to China by 2015. This eco-friendly feat is significant for several reasons. Allow Future Ford of Sacramento to explain why.

Most obviously, the Ford engine will help the Chinese government in its effort to clean up the country's air supply. With a large and ever-growing population, you can imagine how important such an initiative is. Already available in such models as the Ford Taurus here in the U.S., EcoBoost will increase performance and save fuel in China as well. In addition, the automaker will supply the market with direct-injection, twin independent variable camshaft timing and six-speed transmissions. All this will add up to over 20-percent in fuel economy savings and 15- to 20-percent in CO2 reduction.

On a subtler note, the move is also noteworthy in light of a common "scrimping" trend amongst automakers. Due to the fact that China's market is still developing, albeit quite rapidly, most companies skimp on vehicle features to compensate for lower selling prices. Not Ford though. The arrival of EcoBoost in China proves that Ford is dedicated to becoming a world-wide fuel-economy leader and achieving eco-friendly objectives no matter what the cost.
